Is this whole orientation island stuff so necessary?
Why is this forum so strict with posting?
I am not necessarily complaining, but personally I am not interested in copybotting, i only want access to body dev kits for my own creative endeavors that are so preciously gate kept by the big creators. Only to end up here where it feels, at least to me, also being gate kept behind putting in all this work to rank up.
I'll put in the work if I have to! But just my thoughts

It's a copybot forum I guess you don't see the irony in your statement. Me personally who has shared most of the dev kits here find your attitude to be insulting not wanting to put in the work to get access to hard to get dev kits is just straight up leaching behavior. Yeah asking questions is fine. Having a problematic entitlement is not a good thing people take time managing to get this stuff here maintaining the latest versions and you spit on the sharers time and effort. My best guess is once you get your hands on what you want you're just going to fuck off. Take your spoils and run. It's a lot easier than you think to rank up to get access to the dev kits. Getting the dev kits legitimately takes longer and is not guaranteed you'll get them you'll have to design products that are appealing to the general market have top-notch ads have a large enough category of content. I personally know maitreya and yentements are really biased when they come to picking designers. Maitreya will only give you a dev kit if you're popular. Yentements is races and only gives it to black creators. Also I'm not going to apologize for my harsh words.

Well like I said, it's just my thoughts and opinions. I really hadn't thought that deep on how hard the work is for copybotters, I've been making a few shares myself. I have only just landed into this world haha.
I wasn't even trying to insult anybody lol, and perhaps it's me just being ignorant.
Maybe I do just want to gain access to the dev kits and leave, but then why else are they being shared here if not for people who are in need of them, or can't access them using regular methods?
I genuinely want to make cool things on Second Life, and learn how to do it. But like I said it feels that the stuff I need to move forward are being gate kept behind popularity or knowing the right people.

Yeah I don't like gatekeeping too but I don't think it's that bad that the dev kits on here are behind ranking up it's free. You don't have to pay for premium to get access or anything like that such as other copybot sites. It is a little hurdle. You just need to rank up to get Senior 100-199 posts. For me to get there it was like 2 weeks but I'm not the average person. I believe the dev kits access is behind ranking up so it isn't taken and shared on other sites. As well as it gives a sense of familiarity and community to this forum by being a contributing member.
If you want access to freely available dev kits there is Kemono and Ruth and Roth dev kits that's how I first started.
TL;DR Don't be lazy just rank up it easy

Hi K_lan,
Thank you for clarifying your position. It's good to see that you're reflecting on this and being honest — that is a step in the right direction, and it's appreciated.
To address some of what you said, let me explain a bit more about how this community works and why things are set up the way they are.
First of all, this is a community built on mutual effort. People like Bishop and others who contribute regularly are not just "hoarding" content — they are the reason dev kits, resources, and tools are even available here in the first place. Without them, none of this would exist. So naturally, we expect a level of respect and effort in return.
Regarding your question — " why else are these kits shared if not for people who need them?" — you're absolutely right that people share them to help others. But they share them with people who have proven to be trustworthy and active in the community, not just anyone who drops in asking. There’s a big difference between:
- Someone who is here to be part of the community, help others, share, and learn together.
- And someone who is here just to take what they want and vanish, leaving nothing behind.
Unfortunately, we've seen far too many cases of the second kind, which is why the system is designed to filter out leechers and reward genuine contributors. It’s also about protecting the sharers — once a dev kit is leaked to someone untrustworthy, it could end up patched, tracked, or burned for everyone.
As for feeling that things are "gate kept" in Second Life — you're not wrong. The system is unfair out there. Big creators play favorites and often only give dev kits to popular designers or friends. That's exactly why this forum exists: to break that wall. But we can't let this community fall into the same trap of people using it only for personal gain.
So, if you genuinely want to learn and make cool things — awesome, that's what we're about. But part of that process is showing you're here to be part of this community, not just to "grab and go." Participate, share what you can, help others, ask questions, contribute in your own way — and access will come with time. The process is not meant to be impossible — it's meant to protect everyone.
Hope this makes it clearer! And again, thank you for speaking up — it’s an important discussion to have, but always keep in mind the work people put into making this free of charge space possible.
Cheers
showbis
